Jon Hedin | Alcott Principal
Hello Alcott Community!
I am so thrilled to be a part of the Alcott team! I wanted to use this space to let you know a little bit about myself.
I am a Washington native with time spent living in Seattle, Spokane, and Woodinville. I received my elementary teaching certification at Whitworth University, and then completed my master’s degree through the University of Washington. I began teaching second grade at Woodmoor Elementary in the Northshore School District. I also spent time teaching third, fourth, and fifth grade. I absolutely love teaching and working with students, so you will definitely see me in classrooms as much as possible. In 2014, I completed my administrative program through City University and now I am fortunate to work in the Lake Washington School District.
My outdoor interests range from snowboarding to golf, if I can actually find a moment to get out there! Friends and family provide the humor and joy that life has to offer along with any northwest sporting event! I love watching the Mariners, Sounders, and of course, the Seahawks.
My wife Ashley and I have two wonderfully creative and spunky little girls, Ava and Early. We enjoy spending time together any chance we get! Like you, I embrace moments of celebration with my own kids and work to support and nurture them during those “teachable moments”. Thank you for supporting and extending student learning at home. Involved families play such an important role in student achievement and I appreciate it!
This school year, whether you are family or friends of Alcott, I ask you to do your part to support this great school! Get involved with our wonderful PTSA, choose at least one event to support, and reach out to this amazing staff, as they support and challenge all of our learners.
Success Every Day for Every Student!
Barb Deming | Alcott Associate Principal
Dear Alcott Family,
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a full time Associate Principal at Alcott! I’ve worked in a variety of educational settings over the years and consider it my calling to serve others. I graduated from the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Education, a minor in German and additional certification in coaching. I earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Washington State principal certification at City University.
I began my teaching career in my home town of Council Bluffs, Iowa teaching 3rd grade for seven years. During this time I also served as the school wide enrichment and Just Say No Coordinator, and coached for the local high school track team. In 1998 I moved to Redmond and earned a position at Tillicum Middle School. During this time I taught science, math, computer skills, and PE. I also continued my love of coaching children in basketball, cross country, and volleyball. When my two children Samuel 14, and Nathan 12 were young I took time off work and completed my graduate degree in Educational Leadership. From 2006 to 2014 I served as principal and Early Childhood Director of a small private school in Redmond. Over the past two years I have been the Associate Principal at Mark Twain, Carl Sandburg/DCS, and Benjamin Rush Elementary School.
My favorite past times include watching my boys play Lacrosse and Soccer, boating, going to the lake with the kids, working in my yard, and relaxing on my patio with family and friends.
I’m really looking forward to serving the entire Alcott community!
