Alcott Elementary celebrates topping out ceremony

On August 27, the Alcott Elementary topping out ceremony marked a major milestone in the construction of the new school building. A topping out ceremony is a longstanding tradition that takes place when the final structural steel beam is raised into position, symbolizing progress, craftsmanship, safety and community. Before the beam was lifted into place, students, families, staff and project team members had the opportunity to sign it, ensuring their names become a lasting part of the new school. During the ceremony, project leaders reflected on the significance of the moment and the work that has taken place since construction began.

The ceremony celebrated months of progress on the Alcott Elementary rebuild and enlarge project, which is part of the Building Excellence Capital Construction Levy that was passed by voters in 2024. Construction crews have worked throughout the summer to construct the building's steel framework, and the placement of the final beam signals the transition to the next phase of construction. The new, state-of-the-art school is designed to serve future generations of students and is scheduled to open in Fall 2027.
