An update on the 2024 Building Excellence Capital Construction Levy projects

Construction projects 2024 levy

We wanted to provide an update on the status of the 2024 Building Excellence Capital Construction Levy projects that were approved by voters in November 2024 as we have received a few questions from the community.

Collection of funds for the six-year November 2024 Capital Construction Levy did not begin until the 2026 calendar year, meaning that Lake Washington School District will not start receiving funds until later this year and all funds will be collected by the end of the 2031 calendar year. Construction on these projects cannot be completed until we have received all the funding from the levy.

The projects include the rebuild and enlarge of four schools: Alcott Elementary, Kamiakin Middle School, Smith Elementary and Evergreen Middle School. The levy also provides funds for upgrades and modernization of the Fieldhouse and Community Pool at Juanita High School.

Below is the current timeline for completion and the status on each project:

Project Estimated Completion Status
Alcott Elementary Rebuild and Enlarge 2027 Design & permitting
Kamiakin Middle School Rebuild and Enlarge 2029 Pre-design
Smith Elementary School Rebuild and Enlarge 2031 Pre-design
Evergreen Middle School Rebuild and Enlarge 2031 Pre-design
Fieldhouse and Community Pool at Juanita High School Upgrade and Modernization 2028 Pre-design

Construction for each project typically begins in the spring/summer prior to the completion date, with the middle school projects anticipated to take a bit longer to complete.

Updates on the rebuild and enlarge projects have been limited as design, and construction activities being timed as the money is available to complete each project.

The community pool at Juanita High School has been undergoing modernizations for several years, funded primarily by King County grants and Capital Facility Levy funds.

Each project has a dedicated page on the construction section of the LWSD website. We encourage you to sign up to receive updates here if you are interested in specific projects: Join Community Groups | Lake Washington School District.
